It is no easy feat for a ballet company to become rated as one of North America’s finest professional ballet companies. Headed up by a highly accomplished, award-winning, and world-renowned artistic leadership, the Milwaukee Ballet has gained an impressive reputation, all in service of the expressive beauty of ballet. 

The artistic leadership of the company is headed up by artistic director Michael Pink, the longest serving artistic director in the history of the Milwaukee Ballet. With a shared exciting and challenging artistic vision, the internationally acclaimed choreographer is supported by an artistic team comprising company rehearsal directors Luz San Miguel and Denis Malinkine, along with MBII director Davit Hovhannisyan.

THE COMPANY

The Milwaukee Ballet is internationally known as a company where sophistication meets artistry; where incredible talents from around the world come together to tell wonderful stories through excellence, skill, expressive beauty, and precision. 

The company comprises a group of dynamic dancers who have been hailed by critics as some of the very best, and features the talents of principal dancers Parker Brasser-Vos, Randy Crespo, Marize Fumero, Alana Griffith, Jennifer Hackbarth, Marie Harrison-Collins, Lizzie Tripp-Molina, and Lahna Vanderbush. The company also features Josiah Cook, Mihai Costache, Eric Figueredo, Garrett Glassman, Carly Jones, Amanda Lewis, Raven Loan, Kristen Marshall, Emery Meroni, Marko Micov, Jackson Mitchell, Nanaho Nakajima, Ivan Spitale, Flynn Stelfox, Jacqueline Sugianto and Ben Zusi. 

The Milwaukee Ballet also features a second company, or MBII, comprising the next generation of dancers. This company trains with a world-renowned faculty, performs alongside the main company, and participates actively in community outreach programmes. The MBII artistic team comprises full-time faculty Pedro Lapetra, part-time faculty and leading artist Lahna Vanderbush, and part-time faculties Catey Ott Thompson, Jayne Pink and Dawn Springer. HISTORY & LEGACY

The Milwaukee Ballet was founded in 1969 by Roberta Boorse, with their debut performance in 1970. In 1971 the Milwaukee Ballet became a resident partner at the Marcus Centre for the Performing Arts’ Uihlein Hall, where it still performs today, half a century later. 

Apart from just performing, the Milwaukee Ballet also features a ballet school and academy that attracts students from around the world, and offers various programmes, including pre-professional programmes, summer intensives, adult dance and fitness classes, workshops,  student matinees, adaptive and educational programmes.

Every season with the Milwaukee Ballet promises to be captivating, featuring world-class dancers and choreographers, and is bound to be a memorable experience. 

During the years, the Milwaukee Ballet has received several notable honors, including the 2020 Mayor’s Design Award for contemporary architecture, the 2019 Educational Excellence Award from the Sharon Lynne Wilson Centre of the Arts, and the 2017 Webby Award, along with countless individual accolades awarded to company dancers, choreographers and directors.

THE UIHLEIN HALL

Milwaukee’s premier venue for the performing arts, the Marcus Performing Arts Centre, situated on 929 North Water Street in downtown Milwaukee, has been home to the Milwaukee Ballet for nearly as long as the company has existed. Designed by modernist architect Harry Weese, in the Brutalist style, the Marcus Performing Arts Centre’s exterior features striking, strong lines and exposed, textured concrete, gorgeous perennial gardens, and a pavilion on the riverfront, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering stunning panoramic views of Pere Marquette Park and the river. 

On the inside, the Marcus Performing Arts Centre offers two performance spaces – the iconic 2,100-seat Uihlein Hall and the intimate 465-seat Vogel Hall. The Uihlein Hall, the Milwaukee Ballet’s performance venue of choice, is a stunning, modern auditorium with a striking sunburst ceiling, a breathtaking crystal chandelier, and a glass-walled atrium overlooking the city. The Uihlein Hall offers luxurious seating across an orchestra floor, mezzanine, loge and balcony, with a layout and design for optimal acoustics and views of the stage.
